Expressões com colors

As expressões idiomáticas, em Inglês, são chamadas de idioms. Elas são expressões que utilizam  palavras em sentido figurado.

Sendo assim, hoje iremos falar especificamente das expressões que tem como seu componente principal as cores.

No inglês temos algumas expressões que são iguais aqui no Brasil, e, outras que não podem ser traduzidas ao pé da letra. Sendo elas:

“Blue”

Untill you are blue in the face: Quando você se esforça muito , ou você fica muito bravo que te cansa.

– You can tell him to clean his room until you are blue in the face, but He won’t do it.

Once in a blue moon: raramente, uma vez na vida outra na morte.

–He visits his mother once in a blue moon.

Out of the blue: sem mais nem menos , do nada.

–One day, out of the blue, she announced that she was getting married.

Feel blue: estar triste, deprimido.

–Emily is feeling blue, that’s why she won’t go out with us tonight.

“Red”

Paint the town red: cair na gandaia , sair pra se divertir.

–I ‘m ready to paint the town red with my best friends.

Red hot: alguma coisa muito quente , muito popular, muito nova.

-He’s such a red hot singer and guitar player.

-I have some red hot news for you guys!

Catch someone red-handed: pegar alguém em flagrante.

–He was caught red-handed taking money from her mother’s drawer.

Give someone the red-carpet treatment: tratar alguém muito bem.

-I like to study at Key up because they give me the red-carpet treatment.

“Black”

Be in the  black: Estar financeiramente estável.

-Until My finances are in the black I don’t want to get married.

Black Market: mercado negro, vendido ilegalmente.

–During the war, they bought food on the black market.

Black and White: fácil de entender, claramente.

–I won’t believe it until I see it in black and white.
